Brno, Aug 30 (BD) – Following a decision by the Ministry of Health on hygiene rules for schools for the start of the new academic year, the City of Brno has started assisting Brno schools by delivering thousands of Antigen tests for the testing of students and staff against Covid-19.
Boxes with antigen tests from the State Material Reserves were brought by firefighters to the regional headquarters early last week, and since Wednesday, municipal employees have been delivering 164,000 antigen tests directly to 119 primary, secondary, and conservatory schools around the city, with the help of volunteer firefighters. Throughout the South Moravian Region, around 454,000 tests have been distributed. 16 Brno schools opted to use PCR tests, but they obtained them themselves, with a state contribution of 200 crowns each.
The first round of student testing will begin on September 1st, at the beginning of the school year. In the first phase, the dates are scheduled for September 1st, 6th and 9th. First-graders will not take the test until September 2nd, to be able to enjoy the first day of school without any stress. Further action will be considered according to the current epidemiological situation. It is possible that regular testing will be introduced every week.
Students and staff have an exception to these rules if they are fully vaccinated, or can provide evidence of a valid laboratory test. In addition, people who have had Covid-19 in the preceding 180 days do not have to be tested.
Pupils who do not wish to be tested will be required to wear a respirator or other protective equipment (class FFP2 / KN 95) or a surgical drape throughout their classes.
Detailed information about the rules can be found here.
