Brno, Jun 10 (BD) – For two weeks, archaeology organization Archaia Brno has been carrying out excavation work on the so-called Roman square (Římské náměstí) in a courtyard behind Orli. So far, they have uncovered buildings from the 18th and 20th centuries with a system of canals, and pavement from the late Middle Ages or early modern period.
It is the first time in a long while that the organization has been able to carry out excavations. “After decades of repairs, extensions and new construction projects, construction activity in the city center reduced significantly, and in recent years there have been fewer and fewer opportunities for archaeological research,” wrote Marek Peška, director of Archaia Brno, explaining the pause.
The archaeologists will continue their research until mid-July.
