Brno, May 18 (BD) – This year’s FFFIMU will be held completely online, and is scheduled to take place from May 22nd to May 29th. All films will be streamed live once on the opening day, and can then be watched repeatedly at viewers’ leisure for the rest of the week.
The theme of this year’s festival is ‘uncensored’. According to organizers, this theme seeks to “respond primarily to the ills of today’s globalized world, saturated with submissive correctness and darkness. The absence of censorship means artistic freedom, flight and full revelation of the inner worlds for the creators involved. Only by removing it is it possible to fully enjoy the daily fruits of life.”
Although the competition films are in Czech or Slovak, subtitles will be provided for international students and viewers, an audience that has grown steadily over the years. “The film festival of the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University is not just aimed at Czech students, but also those from abroad,” says Daniel Belušík, member of the FFFIMU organizing team. “Over the years, our faculty and university have become more and more international, and many international students are coming to us. To address the international audience, there are subtitles for films that the festival organizers have been preparing for over fifteen years. The films are currently in Czech or Slovak, however, in the future, there is an idea of incorporating the works of foreign students.”
The films screened, which include student productions as well as external submissions, will compete in three prize sections. The first will be judged by an expert jury, awarding cash prizes to the top five films, with a prize of CZK 15,000 for first place. The second section is an audience selection, voted for via an online ‘spectator poll’, with the top five films winning material prizes. The last prize will be awarded by Abra, the general sponsor of the festival. On the last day of the festival, the winners will be announced online in a streamed event.
