Brno, Mar 16 (BD) – The City of Brno has announced that a new public transport stop will be built on Kounicova, near the Moravian Library. The debate on adding a new stop began shortly after the library was built back in 2001, almost 20 years ago.
Currently, the library is situated between two stops, which are both located around 500 meters away. The stop will be constructed with two-way boarding islands, and will serve both tram and bus lines. While the islands will be accessible, the lanes will be fitted with railings.
The area is frequently visited by citizens needing to obtain driving licenses or register vehicles, as there is a Department of Transport administrative office nearby. “The investment aims to increase the safety of pedestrians crossing the road at this point,” said Deputy for Investment of the City of Brno David Grund (ODS).
On March 11th, the Brno City Council announced they had selected a contractor to prepare all the project documentation. The stop on Kounicova will cost nearly CZK 450,000.
Grund said that this was around CZK 100,000 lower than expected, and that construction will start next year.
