The planes from Brno to Berlin will stop flying in April 2020. The Irish airline Ryanair has announced that the route will cease operating with the end of the winter flight schedule, as reported in Czech online transport magazine Zdopravy on Friday. Brno, Dec 1 (BD) – “The decision is based on experience from the operation and evaluation of the fare,” Ryanair spokesman Denis Barabas told Zdopravy.
Ryanair’s move comes as a surprise, as the company was already selling tickets for the summer season. The last flight is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, after which Ryanair’s booking system will no longer display any flights on the route. The company has said that any passengers that had already bought tickets for the summer months will be refunded, according to Zdopravy.
Ryanair launched the new twice-weekly route from Brno-Tuřany to Berlin-Schönefeld from April 2019, as part of Ryanair’s Summer 2019 schedule. South Moravian Governor Bohumil Šimek expressed his satisfaction at the opening of the new routes in autumn 2018: “I expect the new route to bring us thousands of visitors. We will strive to continue to expand the offer of regular routes Brno Airport has to offer.”
Unfortunately, Brno Airport has been struggling to keep regular flight routes with other cities in recent years. In 2017, the airport announced cooperation with the Romanian carrier Blue Air after the Hungarian airline Wizz Air left. Blue Air was expected to offer connections with seven European destinations, but the deal was called off.
Brno passengers can still use regular flights to London-Stansted and Milan-Bergamo.
