Brno, Nov 25 (BD) – “The continuing favourable development of the Czech economy has enabled the city to increase resources in the draft budget, due higher-than-expected tax revenues for 2019 – about CZK 400 million. The proposed tax revenues in 2020 are CZK 1 billion [1,000 million] higher than this year’s budget,” said City Mayor Markéta Vaňková.

The city’s operating expenses increased by CZK 897.2 million from the previous year. The main parts of this increase are transfers to city districts, compensation for the Dopravní podnik města Brna [Brno Transport Company] and dealing with the impacts of legislative changes related to employees salaries at Brno City Hall, Brno City Police, contributory organizations and members of the Brno City Assembly.

The biggest capital expenditures (non-operating costs) in the transport budget are projects including “Tramvaj Plotní” and the tramline extension form Osová to the Campus in Bohunice. The city will also continue building the ring roads around the city centre in areas Žabovřeská and Tomkovo náměstí / Rokytova.

The outlay on sports includes the new multi-purpose sport and cultural centre at the Brno Exhibition Centre, athletics hall in Campus, swimming pool behind Lužánky and the new multifunctional sports complex near Anthropos.

The City also plans to spend financial resources on culture, significantly the construction of the new Janáček Cultural Centre.

CZK 1 billion was earmarked for the reconstruction of the city’s water infrastructure. Events co-financed by European funds amount to CZK 450 million. CZK 786.3 million will go to the Housing Construction Fund for the construction or reconstruction of apartment buildings and care homes.

Among the other expenses are the renovation of kindergarten and elementary school Horníkova and elementary school Otevřená.
