Brno, Sep 20 (BD) – Brno students are joining the global protest against climate change and gathering at Moravské náměstí from 10am today. The program will continue throughout the next week from 24-30 September, which has been recognized as “Climate Week” by the United Nations (UN), with debates, concerts and other events focusing on the contemporary and future problems caused by climate change.

With over 1,000 people showing interest in the event on social media, hundreds attended to protest climate change in Brno this morning – in solidarity with other protests happening in other countries across all continents today. Though the protest was initiated at grass-roots level by high school students to voice their dissatisfaction, the protesters in Brno were not only high schoolers – interest in the future of the climate of our planet has brought together all the people who support the cause.

Today, the Swedish initiator of the global movement known as “Fridays for Future” (FFF) Greta Thunberg is attending the protest at the UN headquarters in New York, where the climate summit is being held. More than 100 heads of state and government are joining the UN General Assembly where the climate change and its consequences are a major focus attention.

A big demonstration for a more consistent fight against climate change is planned in Berlin, where the German government is scheduled to approve a series of measures to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions today. In Brussels, EU transport ministers will discuss reducing transport emissions to achieve carbon neutrality in the middle of the century.

In the Czech Republic, the organizers of “Fridays for Future” announced gatherings in 21 cities.
