What’s Up Brno? – Events in Brno, Week n°22

Brno, May 26 (BD) – After a week of heavy rain, summer is almost here. What better way to celebrate it than diving into the cultural life in Brno? International Children’s Day, history, wine, beer and even more fireworks are waiting for you!

If you didn’t have wine on Náměstí Svobody last week, do not despair – you still have the chance to! The Vínománie Wine Festival will be open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM until Saturday. Get more information on the Facebook event.

If you like opera, don’t miss the open-air performances at Špilberk castle on May 28 and 30 and later this year. The tickets and all you need to know are on the National Theatre website.

If you prefer classical Baroque music, Czech Ensemble Baroque is celebrating its 310th anniversary. Bach’s and Mozart’s music notes will play in Kostel Svatých Janů on Minoritská on May 29, at 7:30 PM. This year is the 30th anniversary of the fall of the communist regime in Czech Republic. For those interested in history, Meeting Brno and Post Bellum / Memory of Nations South Moravia prepared an interactive exhibition titled “Brno Liberated!?”. The exhibition is about the liberation from nazism and the following Soviet occupation. It opens on May 29th at 6 PM at Moravské Náměstí, near the Red Army Soldier statue. On Thursday, come to Dominikánské Náměstí to discover new talents. The Tourist Information Center is organizing a contest for young talents up to the age of 21, divided in 5 different categories. The registration for aspiring performers is over, but the events are free to attend. Find more information on Facebook (only in Czech).

What is love? If your answer is “baby don’t hurt me”, you do not want to miss out on this one! Haddaway and other pop music legends will be in Brno on Friday for the 90s Explosion Brno Open Air 2019. Doors open at 3 PM, and you can buy the tickets here.

Καλημέρα! Summer temperatures are coming and you would probably prefer being in Greece instead. As a consolation, Veveří Castle is organizing a Greek Saturday with folk music and typical food. Activities for children, theatre performances and an exhibition are also planned! More info on the Facebook event (only in Czech).

All those with kids know: June 1st is International Children’s Day. Take your kids with you and celebrate this important day with them! Do you lack inspiration? We selected some for you (not specifically English friendly): Brno Zoo will be filled with colors and activities, and the VIDA! Centrum will be screening 3D movies without extra fees for each entrance ticket, from 10 AM to 6 PM. Find out more on VIDA!’s website.

You were maybe watching the fireworks over Špilberk Castle last Friday. Did you want it to be longer? On Saturday, come to Brno Dam at 10:30 PM for the first fireworks show in competition for the IGNIS Brunensis fireworks festival. More info on the Facebook event and on the official website.

What if you took a train ride? For the 170th anniversary of the train track operating from Brno to Česká Třebová, a steam train ride is organized between Česká Třebová to Letovice on Saturday. More info on the Facebook event (only in Czech).

Some say that guláš is a dish filled with flavor – find out for yourself at the Guláš Fest 2019! Come to Lužánky park on June 1 and enjoy different games, concerts and activities for children, without forgetting to have a taste of guláš! If you are still hungry for information, find more on Facebook or on the dedicated website.

Still feeling the guláš? Want to digest it with a beer? Maybe go for a run? Well, you can do both at the same time at the Brno Beer Run 2019. For the fans of crazy and extreme events, on Saturday from 3 PM your 2-people team can start the bar crawl and be the first one to reach all seven checkpoints! The registration fee is CZK 100, and the beers are on you. Find all you need to know on the official website (in Czech).

Not a fan of beer with runs? Another run will take place on Saturday at 9:30 AM, at Kraví hora observatory park. The run is for free and you can get more information on the run’s website (only in Czech).
