Brno, April 28 (BD) [UPDATED April 29, 11:46] – Multiple dance (and other fun) events will take place in Brno this week.
April 29 is the International Day of Dance! Enjoy multiple performances of Flamenco dancers from 3:30 PM on the Moravian square, and start the week in a good mood! All the details are on the official Facebook event.
The piazzetta in front of the Janáček Theatre will become a big dance floor on Monday from 4 PM. Ballet, modern dance, street dance and breakdance will give rhythm for the afternoon. The National Theatre in Brno (NdB) will give a free open class for ballet, from 4 PM (the registration is from 3:30 PM). The workshop will be followed by different performances from 4:45 to 6 PM. UPDATE (Monday 29/4, 11:46): Unfortunately the dancing event in front of the Janáček Theatre is cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
If you feel like you didn’t dance enough, you can come back to the same place on May 1 from 6 PM to dance throughout the evening! You can find more info (only in Czech) on the Facebook event.
Come to Brno-Královo Pole on April 30 from 4 PM at Slovanské náměstí to attend a traditional Czech custom: burning witches. The witch that gets burned chases away the last of the cold weather. This event is not really English-friendly but still interesting if you are curious!
To respond to a Neo-Nazi march happening on the same day, a different march is organized on May 1, starting at 5 PM from Dominikánské náměstí. The goal is to have fun! Get more info on the Facebook event.
You still don’t have your ticket for Bobby McFerrin’s concert? It is not too late to buy one! The famous American jazz vocalist and conductor comes to Brno on May 2. The concert will take place in Sono Centrum at 8 PM. Buy your tickets and get more info here.
Several events are organized for the celebrations of the liberation of Brno. On May 3, vintage cars will drive in the the surroundings of Dolni Kounice. On Saturday, the battle of Brno will be re-enacted in the Dolni Kounice castle at 2 PM. Tickets are not available online, and can only be bought on the spot. Do you like Czech and Slovak music? Brněnský Majáles Festival – the largest student festival in the Czech Republic, is back for its 2019 edition. Famous Czech & Slovak singers as Kryštof or Mirai will perform on stage on May 4 at the Exhibition centre (Výstaviště). Come to dance and to dance on electronic, metal, punk, pop, rap and rock songs. A parade going from the Freedom square to the Exhibition centre will start at 10:30 AM. Buy your tickets and get more info on the official website.
On the same day, at same place, the Utubering festival brings together all the Czech famous YouTubers. More info on the official website (only in Czech). This event is not tailored to be English-friendly, but you will find plenty of concerts and DJ performances.
If you are hungry and having cravings, come to Veveri Castle (Hrad Veveří) and taste Czech flavours, as traditional cheese, beer, sausages, etc. Some workshops, music performances and a visit of the castle are also organized. Please note that this event is not English-friendly (except for all the food tasting!). The festival Ochutnej ČR will take place on May 4 from 10 AM to 5 PM.
