A four day weekend is coming soon and it is the occasion to enjoy multiple events in the city, including Easter celebrations.

The Easter Festivities have already begun on April 12, and will continue until the end of the week. You can join different folklore-themed events and enjoy an Easter market on the Freedom square (Náměstí Svobody) everyday from 11 AM to 7 PM. Even if these events are not English-friendly, you can learn more about Czech traditions and buy things for decorating your home in a spring atmosphere – or just buy a souvenir!

Are you a jazz musician? Don’t forget your instruments, and come to the 188th Jam Session organized by Music Lab tomorrow (April 15) at 8 PM at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno’s Music Faculty. The occasion  is perfect for meeting other jazz lovers, and to have a nice evening.

Come to the House of the Lords of Kunštát on April 16 at 6 PM to attend two exhibition openings: VDIFF – an exhibition about the link between art and technology; and Constant Rendering – a young Polish artist’s multimedia exhibition emphasizing on the global environmental issues.

On the same day, you can enjoy a concert organized by the Brno Philharmonic at the Church of Saint Joseph at 7 PM. The violinist Milan Paľa will perform Ecce Homo, a symphony for solo violin. This concert is part of the Easter festival of sacred music. There will be another concert on April 17 at the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady at 9 PM. This time, Hans-Ola Ericsson from Sweden will play Which art in heaven on the organ. The tickets are available on the official website.

On the evening of April 17, put on your sneakers, and come to a charity run for Světluška. This association created by the Czech national radio, helps blind people in their everyday life. The run will start in the dark at 9 PM in Lužánky park, after a concert of the Czech singer Monika Bagárová. René Kujan – a famous Czech maratonist, and Markéta Zvolska – a Czech popular blogger, will also be present to encourage the runners (in Czech though). Do you already feel tired? No worries, even if there is a long 5 km course, a shorter, 2.5 km course also exists. To participate, you need to register online or directly at the cash desk from 6:30 PM. The minimum donation to run is CZK 400.

If you are more of an adventurer, Brno Zoo is organizing – for children but also for adults – a big egg hunt from Friday April 19 till Monday April 22. 1,000 eggs will be hidden in the garden area, and you can win a reward for the eggs you find. Not enough? Demonstrations of sheep shearing will also be presented! Please note that this event is not specifically for English speakers.

Are you ravenous and curious about Czech traditions? Come to the Easter Potluck organized by Foreigners Brno and Domeq on April 19, from 6 PM. Enjoy good food, egg colouring, handcrafting of Easter whips, traditional Easter lamb (a Czech sweet pastry), and have fun! The entrance is free, but you need to register here before coming. You can find more info on the Facebook event.
