Brno, Feb 9 (BD) – In the sixth week of 2019, figures show an increase of 6% in the number of cases of influenza reported, from 1,918 per 100,000 people at the end of week five, to 2,034 per 100,000 a week later. The highest incidence was recorded in Brno-Centre, where the rate was 2,218 per 100,000. The largest increase was among working-age adults, senior citizens, and pre-school children. However, the spread of the disease has not yet reached levels seen last winter.

According to Dr. Renata Ciupek, the spokeswoman of South Moravian Regional Hygiene Office (KHS JMK) and author of the weekly report, the medical recommendation is to “follow the principles of hand and airway hygiene. If possible, avoid crowded or busy areas. In case of illness, pay due attention to your treatment and do not ignore the symptoms.”
