Brno, Feb 2 (BD) – At a meeting on Wednesday, the City Council approved a plan to purchase a listed 19th century gym and surrounding land in Pisarky, which borders the existing sport and recreation area known as “Za Anthroposem”, and recommended that the City Assembly approve the proposal. The newly acquired property will be integrated into the rest of the area as part of a major revitalisation of the site.

“The development of sports and sports facilities is one of the city’s priorities. The area located behind Anthropos will contribute to the expansion of the range of sporting facilities on offer. The purchase of the real estate must now be approved at the February meeting of the Brno City Assembly,” explained Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL), Council Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Sports.

The gym being purchased dates from the end of the 19th century, and is listed as a legally-protected monument. The City of Brno asked the previous owner, the Ministry of Defence, to sell the property in September 2016.
