Brno, Dec 22 (BD) – “There will be a device no bigger than a watch which will allow people to connect to any phone in the world,” Nikola Tesla is reputed to have said in 1909. While unimaginable at that time, it is now, almost 100 years later, a normal part of our everyday lives.

Tesla was the creator of many inventions and wrote thousands of pages of text, the fruits of the tireless work of a visionary and genius who was also an introvert, sometimes referred to as weird, who suffered from several phobias. “With this exhibition, visitors enter a story in which they explore the life and the broken soul of the genius, which was often dark but also extremely fragile,” explained Markita Franulić, director of the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum in Zagreb. It was this museum that lent an extensive collection about the life of the great inventor to the Brno Technical Museum. The exhibition was originally presented in Zagreb, but has also visited Paris, Madrid, Helsinki, Bratislava and St. Petersburg.

The exhibition presents Tesla’s life story in a non-traditional style drawn from Tesla’s personal ideas and notes, and is complemented by functional and interactive activities based on some of his inventions – the Columbian Egg and Tesla’s transformer. Visitors will have the opportunity to try putting “egg to tip”, or to test the transmission of wireless power.

Nikola Tesla, a visionary scientist with the soul of an artist, was born at midnight during a thunderstorm in the small town of Smiljan in 1856. It was as if the storm had determined the course of his life – a life devoted to electricity. After the discovery of wireless telecommunication in 1893, Tesla gained widespread fame, and is now among the most respected and well-known inventors or scientists in history.

The exhibition, entitled “Nikola Tesla – the Man Who Lit Up the World” opened in the Technical Museum of Brno on Wednesday, December 19.
