Brno, Nov 27 (BD) – The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) will carry out a full renovation of security equipment and technology at Brno’s Central Railway Station, and continue with repairs on the bridges over Hybešova and Křídlovická. These works are scheduled to limit services to the central station for one year.

As a result, trains from Břeclav, Vyškov, and Slavkov, as well as long-distance services, will run through the Lower Station [“Dolní nádraží”].

SŽDC started the extensive renovation project this summer with work on the two preserved bridges over Hybešova and Křídlovická that stretch over two busy roads in the very center of Brno. In December, the renovation project will enter the next phase, with work on the steel supporting structure and other elements of the bridges.

The reconstruction of the security system for the whole Brno Central Station will begin with the start of the new timetable. The cost is estimated to be almost CZK 1.8 billion.

Trains will only be able to enter platforms 1-4 of the station from the direction of Židenice. “Once again, the importance of the Lower Station will increase. From December 8, a new platform will be open behind Zvonařka bus station, connected by a newly built subway. Passenger trains will be able to use three tracks there,” reported SŽDC in a press release.

For the comfort of passengers at the Lower Station, SŽDC has already put in place temporary universal mobile cells. At the end of the year, after the completion of the necessary building modifications, a temporary waiting room will be opened in the administrative building which SŽDC has leased from Czech Railways.

The reduced service timetable will continue throughout 2018/2019 and will end on December 15, 2019, when the security system at the station in Brno will be activated.
