Brno, Oct 29 (BD) – The new architectonic manual, “Rukověť tvorby veřejných prostranství” [“The Handbook of Making Public Spaces”], will provide guidance to representatives of the city and municipalities, architects, designers, and anyone else involved in the development of public spaces in Brno.
The handbook sets out the principles of how to draw people out into public spaces by creating pleasant streets, parks and squares where Brno residents will feel good. “We want Brno residents to live well in the city, and there is a need for high-quality public spaces where people would like to spend time,” said Deputy Mayor Martin Ander in a press release.
The manual contains principles and recommendations for transforming Brno into a “user-friendly” city. The handbook describes the creation of public space from project preparation to the final realization. “The city, city organizations, architects, and investors will have a tool to create such places thanks to this manual. The document is intended to contribute to making public spaces in Brno thoughtful and conceptual,” Ander added.
Ten chapters focus on specific topics such as the deployment and function of greenery, transport and technical infrastructure, or rainwater management. There is also a description of details such as the optimal placing of benches, lamp posts, bins, bicycle stands and other street furniture. The handbook also discusses topics including parking spaces and accessible space solutions.
The city architect’s office is currently preparing the visual form of the document and will present it to the public at the beginning of 2019.
