5/5 Majáles: Celebrating spring and student life
It is said that one’s days as a student make up the most beautiful period of life. The Czech Republic is no exception, and the biggest student festival of the year is here! Photo credit: Pexels
Majáles, a celebration of spring and student life, is a month-long series of events such as concerts, exhibitions, workshops, discussions, and sports competitions, with the grand finale being an open-air festival held at Brno Exhibition Centre on May 5.
The festivities began in April with the erecting of a wooden statue named ‘Majka’ in náměstí Svobody, marking the beginning of the ‘month of students’.
Brno’s Majáles has been held every year since 2004. During this time, the location of the open-air festival has changed a couple of times, finally settling at the Brno Exhibition Centre.
Students and student associations from all the major universities in Brno and from several high schools co-operate in its preparation.
The festivities don’t end there. On May 11, another Majales is coming. Named Studentský Majáles, it is a one-day open-air music festival at Areál Hněvkovského. It will host more than 20 artists on five stages, including Movits!, Ready Kirken, Smack, Rocky Leon, and others. You can find the complete program on this link.
