Prague, Dec 22 (CTK) – Toilet paper with a portrait of first Czechoslovak President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk (1918-1935) is on sale in the Czech Republic, which has angered the Czech Freedom Fighters (CSBS), a World War Two veterans organisation, daily Pravo writes today.

Masaryk’s portrait is on a 5,000-crown Czech banknote on the toilet paper, manufactured by the Chinese company Damon Paper Industrial and distributed by the company Levne knihy (“Cheap Books”) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Pravo writes.

The paper has asked the company for comment, but it has not reacted to the demand, it adds.

The sale of the toilet paper is an offence of national pride, the CSBS said.

It is shocking that the portrait of any president, one of the symbols of the Czech state, may appear on toilet portrait, Jaroslav Bukovsky, chairman of the CSBS branch in Plzen, west Bohemia, said.

“The liberalisation of our civic society has gone too far. The toilet paper is being sold as a funny gift, but we do not think this is funny,” Bukovsky said.

The CSBS considers the sale of the toilet paper scandalous. Its central committee in Prague has dealt with the affair, Pravo writes.

The CSBS said the toilet paper featuring the banknote with Masaryk was sold for 39 crowns for roughly two years.

($1 = 21.684 crowns)
