Brno, Nov 17 (BD) – Freedom and Democracy Day, Nov 17, commemorates two specific events in the long struggle of the Czech people for a free, democratic society: the resistance of student demonstrators in 1939 to the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia and student protests in 1989 that resulted in “Velvet Revolution”.

Today, students of Brno universities organize a special program called “Brněnský sedmnáctý” (official web). They say: “We [students] recall the events of 1939 and 1989. We want to show that students are not indifferent to the state and development of the Czech society.”
