Brno, Oct 19 (BD) – The train stations of Židenice, Královo Pole and Dolní nádraží will provide more space for cars.
The idea behind building more parking lots near secondary train stations of Brno is to provide easier solutions for passengers from other parts of the city and Brno’s surroundings.
The existence of bigger parking lots and better train connections would make the life of commuters and travelers easier.
“Now, it is very difficult and expensive to leave a car for the whole day in Brno when you need to travel to Prague by train,” a driver from Kuřim that often goes to Prague on train told us. “It’s difficult to take the train from Kuřim to Brno or to Židenice because of the long waiting times or completely missing connections, especially later in the evening and on weekends. That’s why I prefer to arrive to Brno in a car,” he explains.
The creation of the parking spaces near the train stations of the city work as an incentive to motivate passengers to use the trains more often.
It is important to come up with a solution for Židenice, as in next two years, RegioJet trains will connect Židenice with Vienna, Prague and Bratislava.
“We want the station to be used by people (…). So that they do not have to go to the center to the main railway station where parking is quite expensive,” the RegioJet owner, Radim Jančura said to iDnes.cz.
RegioJet wants to build up a new parking lot by December 2017 at a roundabout near Kaufland in Židenice. Jančura plans to provide free parking.
The idea to offer to the passengers free spaces to park their cars near the train stations in the city outskirts as a way to motivate them to use public transport has proven to be efficient in cities such as Ostrava and Olomouc, Jančura further explains.
In Královo Pole, there will be built a “Park and Ride” parking lot with the capacity of 300 vehicles.
“A study of the entire project is under preparation. However, we still have to resolve land property settlement. In two years. we could start building the parking lot,” the mayor of Královo Pole district, Karin Karasová clarified for iDnes.cz.
Královo Pole plans also the complete reconstruction of the station building.
Besides larger parking area, the Dolní nádraží station will provide better facilities for the passengers such as waiting rooms or indoor toilets instead of the mobile ones. The reconstruction of Dolní nádraží will cost up to 60 million CZK.
