Brno, Oct 10 (BD) – Last Wednesday, the umbrellas were taken down from the installation on Česká and handed over to Diocesan Charity in Brno.
The charity will auction them during a Kometa hockey match at the end of October.
“We understand these umbrellas as a symbolic shelter that will help people in need to have a real roof over their heads. The auction money will be used for the Day Center for Homeless People, which includes a shelter and a dormitory,” the Director of Diocesan Charity in Brno, Oldřich Hajčman explained.
A hockey match instead of charity concert. The umbrellas will be available in October during one of the Kometa hockey matches. Let’s watch a game and get a new original umbrella!
Tricolor ‘umbrella roof’ representing Italy had been protecting Brno citizens from rain since June 21st. Their installation was in honor of a newly reopened Italian Honorary Consulate in Brno.
Brno and Italy inspire each other. “When we were thinking about how to grasp the Czech-Italian friendship, I suggested to the Ambassador and the Consul that we could celebrate the connection with these colored umbrellas,” DRFG Foundation Director David Macek said.
Do you remember the iron-piped construction on Moravské square as a reminder of Czech-German history? Meeting Brno, the multi-genre cultural festival which took place in late May and built the construction, was also inspired by Italy.
DRFG Foundation, an open space for all as they characterize themselves on their website, brought these ideas to Brno. Italian city Rimini was a role model for the festival.
DRFG Foundation grasps the idea of their actions as follows: “Together we can achieve much more. And how to start – we only have to meet each other. Meetings and encounters enrich and bring together, help to identify who is unique and in what field he/she excels.”
