Brno, Sep 14 (BD) – Brno city council approved the project Free Wi-Fi that aims to provide publicly available, free and unlimited access to the Internet in the busiest parts of the city.
Yesterday, Brno councilors and Brno Technical Networks approved the contract that determines the operation and administration of free Wi-Fi network in the city.
The network will be installed gradually. In two weeks, the city council will define the places of the city that will be covered by the Free Wi-Fi project and time schedule.
The budget limit for the project was set to 66.000 euros / year.
Last year, European Commission announced a plan to spend 120 million euros in providing free access to the Internet in public areas across EU country members by 2020.
“So, we propose to equip every European village and every city with free wireless Internet access around the main centers of public life by 2020,” Claude Junker, the president of European Commission, told BBC then.
