Brno, August 4 (BD) – The Statutory City of Brno (SCB) has been supporting research and development of the population since 2003 when it co-founded South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC). Since then, the SCB has invested millions of crowns into the Microloan Fund through JIC that financed innovative ideas of the city’s geniuses.

Among other things, the SCB prepared a feasibility study for a Creative Center on the territory of the former Penitentiary Center near Cejl. The former prison is located at Bratislavská 68, Brno. The historical landmark will serve to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium sized business in South Moravian Region.

The project will also help with prevention of the outflow of talented professionals from the city providing vital tools for eager entrepreneurs. Furthermore, it will liven up the neglected part of the city.

The preliminary research showed that there are 10 thousand students, 16 thousand entities and over 20 thousand employees that may directly contribute to the creative industries promising a great potential for the project.

Brno Creative Center will provide incubators for starting entrepreneurs, studios for rent, workshops, test rooms, regional film offices etc.

A total of 400 million crowns will be invested into implementation of the project. Based on the feasibility, the center will be open in 2019 after the full reconstruction of the penitentiary. However, considering the scale of the operations, some services are projected to be launched before the full completion.
