Despite the recent inconvenience caused by the repairs at Brno’s main railway station [Brno hlavní nádraží], the city has an amazing train connection that can get you around Europe in less that twenty hours.

For all the travelers out there. Brno Central Railway Station will have limited traffic until September 10, 2017 due to the repair works. Most connections will pass from Brno Dolní Nádraží (see on map). To get there you need to get bus 60 or 61 from the Central Station and ride four stops.

Let’s get to the fun part. Brno has an amazing train connection including trains such as EuroNight Metropol and RailJet. Planes are surely convenient, but the real fun is in the trains. Have you ever seen those movies where friends hop on the first train and start their adventure? It can be real!

How to kick off a journey from Brno to any country in Europe by train? The best option to travel to north-west Europe is to get Metropol night train and head to Berlin. There is a scheduled train every night going from Brno around 1 am. To travel to the South you can also take EuroNight Metropol and head to Budapest or Vienna. From there, you can find trains to most places in southern Europe. To get the best connections to whole Europe, heading to Berlin is your best option.

For travelling with EuroNight Metropol, you need to make a reservation prior to your trip, especially if you want a sleeping accommodation (for short trip, e.g. Brno – Bratislava, a reservation is not required). Find the reservation page here.

RailJet is as the name suggests a high-speed train, operating across the Czech Republic and in abroad. It can take you to Zurich in only a few hours. Who wouldn’t enjoy a train journey through the magical landscapes of Austria, Germany and Switzerland? RailJet is ideal for those who want to travel to Italy by train. The last stop in one of its connections is Villach, a city at the border between Austria and Italy. From there, you can take a train and travel the Mediterranean country.

The reservation for RailJet is optional with one exception – trips to Budapest.

If you don’t like planned trips, just head to the ticket booths at the Brno Central Railway Station and ask for a ticket to the city of your liking. If you don’t speak Czech you better head to the left after entering the station from the main gate. At the ticket booths there, we noticed that most officers speak English.

To plan a trip abroad by train you can visit the web of České Dráhy or Eurail and discover more connections to European states.
