Hanoi, June 8 (CTK special correspondent) – President Milos Zeman said he received a letter from Donald Trump, in which the U.S. President apologises for a postponement of the promised meeting in the White House, Zeman told Czech journalists at the close of his visit to Vietnam today.

He said one of the possible dates of the meeting is September, when he will attend a session of the U.N. General Assembly.

The Czech Presidential Office announced Trump invited Zeman to a visit to the White House early last December.

Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said then Trump invited Zeman by phone.

Some diplomats say this did not have to be an official invitation to a White House visit, but only an informal part of the conversation.

New Czech ambassador to the United States Hynek Kmonicek said later the meeting will be postponed and that a suitable date is being sought.

“Donald Trump sent me a letter in which he apologises for a postponement of the date of our meeting and I took note of the letter,” Zeman said.

“It is now up to the capabilities of Hynek Kmonicek, our ambassador, when the meeting will take place,” Zeman said in reply to a question of how he perceives the fact that Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will be the first president of Central and East European countries to meet Trump.

Asked whether the meeting with Trump could take place in September, Zeman said he will be attending a session of the U.N. General Assembly then and that is why this is one possibility.
